Before
hiring any tutor for your children, especially for science and mathematics many
questions pop up around our heads, which is undoubtedly very necessary.
Questions like,
- Should I go for the most expensive
science and math tutor?
- How can I be sure that the tutor
will it be good for my child?
- Does my child need science and
math tuitions? Etc...
Now,
all of you know the fact that a good English teacher cannot be a good math
teacher and it works the other way round. When we talk about science, we
usually think of 4 subjects in common; Chemistry, physics, biology, and
mathematics. But, if we are talking about JC chemistry or JC math, you need to find the best
tutor in Singapore.
Things to look for in a science and math tutor
Must be
Logical
A
language or history tutor may not have very strong logical reasoning, like a
science and math tutor. And that is why a language tutor teaches language and a
science tutor teaches science and math, both are great in their fiefs of study.
The only reason to mention this is to make sure that you can make the
difference between tutors.
A good
science tutor will not only follow the books or just help your child to
complete the assignments or check the answers on the guide books, but they will
help your child to understand a formula or a combination by logic. If it’s only
about checking the answers, you could do that, why hire a private tutor, right?
The tutor must have logical reasoning so that they can understand where the
student is struggling or where they got stuck or if they understood something
quickly, how did they do it. A good and responsible tutor will not be in a
hurry to finish the course as soon as possible but it will take time, so your
child doesn’t misunderstand a concept or learn things in the wrong
way.
A good
science and math tutor can use their logical reasoning to make their students
think logically. What else do you want to get a better grip in science and math
other than logic?
Must have
a grasp on concepts
One the tutor cannot be good at everything, and that’s the logic we were talking about
on the last point. A tutor must be specialized in math and science to teach the
subjects. This will enable the tutor to have a strong concept about these
subjects and they will be more flexible to teach your child. If a tutor is only
teaching through the textbooks, you can raise questions on their depth on that
subject and their teaching abilities. The textbooks are there to help a student
to know about a few facts, but that doesn’t mean one can find everything on the
textbooks. To get a better grasp of the subject, whether its science or history
or language or anything, the tutor needs to go beyond the textbooks. If the
tutor doesn’t go beyond the textbooks, the student will remain clueless if
asked anything that is not on the textbooks, which means they didn’t grasp the
logical idea.
Different
teaching methods
Many
people think science and math is a tough subject because they weren’t guided
properly. Science and JC math is
not only about the formulas or the tables, but we must also connect it to our daily
life. That’s exactly what the tutor should do, by implementing different
teaching methods for different students.
