All you need to know about the tuition agencies in Singapore – Is group tuition the best option for your child?

Education is the most important thing for a child, but for many parents, it’s quite an expensive investment, who wants to give their children an edge once they get older. This will give them confidence and freedom to enter into the desired field in the future.

While some subjects may seem easy for you, but there are some subjects or exams, where you will need an extra helping hand, like PSLE science. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far to get that extra help as it is available in the form of tutoring. Tutoring is available in two forms – one is a private tutor at home and the Another is small group classes at the tuition agency.

Small group tuition

This is a type of tuition, where a small group of students would meet up and study together with a tutor managing the class. Group tuition classes can be held anywhere, a place where all the students can feel comfortable.

Group tuition is also offered by the tuition agencies, which have their private classrooms, sometimes with practical room s too. Like the school, tuition centers have schedules as to when a certain subject will be taught. You can choose one or multiple subjects and attend classes accordingly. For example, if you have signed up for PSLE Maths, you will visit the tuition center at the scheduled time and will study with others who have signed up for the same classes.

Group tuition: Advantages

While you may have been rooting for the private tuition classes at home, group tuition classes have certain advantages, like

• The tuition fee is relatively less than private home tuition as the fess is being shared by several students.
• As the tuition centers provide the same experience as the school does, students will not get bored and will indulge in their studies accordingly. In the group tuition classes, students will also be able to interact with one another about the problems and find solutions together.
• There will be several students in the tuition classes, so there won’t be any kind of peer pressure or anxiousness. The students will be more motivated and willing to learn and improve their reach on the weaker subjects.
• Most of the tuition agencies in Singapore hires the most qualified tutors, who can understand the problems of every child and work on the points accordingly.

Group tuition: Disadvantages

Every student is different and so is their capacity of learning in terms of how well they will take each session. So, there are several disadvantages of joining the group tuition classes, such as

• There is a scheduled time and you have to arrive at the tuition center at least 5-10 minutes before the session begins. If you get late for any reason, the tutor will start with the other student and won’t repeat the lesson.
• Like school, group tuition will have several students in one class. Probably not 30-40 students like in the school, but at least 10-12 students. So, the tutor might not be able to address everyone’s problems and soon the problem will become your weakness.
• As mentioned above, there will be a scheduled time at the tuition center and if you can’t make that due to other commitments, you need to find other tuition centers.
• The location could be a major issue as if you could not find the right tuition center near you, your child would lose a lot of time traveling.
